Enough

When I look around I see:

Families and marriages that are broken. People who have hopes dashed without an answer in sight.  A husband who will lose a wife and little girls who will grow up without their mummy. People who battle with the same wretched sin for years. A man who fought for years and the Lord has taken him home leaving a wife and boys to grieve. An old man who has stopped thinking clearly and who has started to lose himself. Parents who grieve the loss of children and children who grieve the loss of parents.

Circumstances may not change and the pain may only fade a little over time, but God's goodness, mercy, grace, and faithfulness are woven into Who He is and those things will never change. He is good in joy and in grief. He is good when He gives life and when He takes it.

Because of Who he is and His promises, He is enough. Enough to heal marriages. Enough to carry us through all sorts of grief. Enough to give us the strength to fight our deepest sins. Enough to cover those sins with His blood. Enough to give hope for the weary and healing for the broken.

The Lord never promised easy and painless, but I thank the Lord that He is always good, is always faithful, is always enough, and will come back someday and make everything right and new.

Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness!

Psalm 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Revelation 21: 1-5 (ESV)
The New Heaven and the New Earth
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.  And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.  He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”  And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new."
